Easy Hummus Recipe – So Easy To Make At Home
We make Hummus at home just about every week. It is super easy and quick to do and when you make it yourself there are no preservatives or artificial anything added. Just delicious Garbanzo beans otherwise known as chickpeas, fresh lemon juice, Sesame Tahini and fresh garlic.
Easy Hummus Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 15 oz can chickpeas
- 1 1/4 cup lemon juice (1 large lemon)
- 1 clove small garlic minced
- 1/4 cup Tahini stirred well
- Salt to taste
- 3 tablespoons water or more depending on desired smoothness
- 1/2 tsp sugar or 1/2 packet of stevia
Instructions
-
In a food processor, add the Tahini paste and the lemon juice. Pulse to combine.
Remove skins from drained chickpeas. (if you don't, the Hummus will be less smooth but will taste the same. It's a texture thing!)
Add the Chickpeas and garlic to the processor and pulse to combine. Scrape down the sides occasionally. the Mixture will be thick, adding water will loosen the dip to the consistency you like.
Optional: you could add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. I don't because it adds extra calories and not a lot of extra flavor. (1 tablespon of oil is 140 calories!)
Add salt, pepper and sugar to taste.
Enjoy!
The Tahini has a layer of oil on top that needs to be mixed well.
One lemon squeezed will do it!
The chick peas have a skin on them, you can leave them on or take a minute to remove most of them. I just run my fingers through them and the skins fall off.
If you desire your hummus to be smoother use the stick blender and pulse several times.
