Gluten Free Forever – A Guide to Gluten Free Food Choices At The Market
GLUTEN FREE FAVORITE LIST
Here are some of my tried and true tips that won’t break the “I have a food allergy and can’t buy tons of expensive ingredients to accommodate it- bank!” LOL!
Here is my favorite book to give new GF people. Gluten Free Living for Dummies, easy to understand and a great place to start. the below link is an affiliate link with Amazon. If you are going to buy the book buy through my link and I receive a percentage at no cost to you, Amazon pays me!
I included some other non affiliate links below just so you can see the branding and recognize the products in the store.
Udi (not Rudi) sliced Bread and bagels in frozen Gluten Free section. The bread is ridiculously small but it tastes like real bread and doesn’t crumble. So, just because I am GF I don’t want a normal sized sandwich?? OH well.
I found this bread in a restaurant in Virginia, they let me take some home and I looked them up. Best onion roll ever! they can be purchased online. Here is the link below.
Jillians Caramelized Onion Rolls
These UTZ Chips I use as crackers for cheese. They are always on sale too! See link below.
All UTZ potato chips, corn chips and other chips are GF
Milton’s Craft Bakers make a Gluten Free baked cracker that is delicious. Variety of flavors found in the GF section of Shoprite. See link below.
Rice crackers are also good. Blue Diamond Nut Thins are great. They are found near the bread section where the rice cakes are at my Shoprite. Pecan are one of my favorite. See link below.
Glutino Premium English muffins – really good toasted for an egg and cheese sandwich!
They can be found in the GF frozen section at Shoprite. See link below.
Cheerios now GF.
There is a GF Rice Krispies for those Rice Krispy treats!
Chex cereals are GF.
Ronzoni and Barilla now have GF pasta , in the pasta isle mixed in, way better than other brands.
I use GF Bisquick for everything, making banana bread, tempura (I add a seltzer or club soda to it and season it , then dip meat and deep fry) Next to the regular Bisquick in the pancake isle at Shoprite
There are lots of GF breadcrumbs on market. I like 4-C. See link below.
I use them to firm up meatballs or I use mash potato flakes. (GF of course)
Sharr makes good loaves of GF bread, like an Italian loaf, usually in GF non -frozen section at ShopRite.
The other Sharr rolls are good too, just not there sliced bread, it breaks apart. Stick to UDI.
Read all salad dressing bottles and broth, avoid modified food starch, if it says modified corn starch you are ok.
I can’t handle oats, so I buy GF, Quaker has a GF oatmeal now.
Glutino makes good pretzels (I only buy on sale) and now Snyder’s came out with some GF ones too that are tasty and so has UTZ.
Kind bars are GF
Potatoes and rice are GF
There is a GF soy sauce and a teriyaki sauce too. La Choy is one brand but there are a few others in the international food isle at the store.
People thicken sauces with flour, have to ask about that, it needs to be cornstarch or GF flour. Could be risky if eating out.
Soup, not much hope here. Progresso has a few GF soups: split pea with HAM not bacon. Potato corn chowder, French onion soup and a cream of mushroom.
When I go out. I ask for burgers without the bun… French fries are tricky because they are cooked in the same oil as everything else, so you may have trouble with them in a restaurant.
In the GF section of ShopRite there is GF lasagna noodles… several different brands. I do not cook first I put them in hard so they don’t get mushy buy the end of cooking the lasagna.
Corn tortillas are good but not wheat ones.
Read spice packets and salad dressings, so many of them have wheat. (And BTW tons of calories, I was shocked)
Lunch meat is tricky, you may have to google which brands are GF , Boar’s Head is.
Freschetta just came out with a frozen pizza.. and UDI frozen pizza is good. AMY’s is Bleh!!
I like to cook the frozen pizza on an outdoor gas grill, it gets crispy and a little charred (only if you like that) keep rotating it really adds to improve the ehhhh flavor.
Lots more frozen pizza’s on market now and lots of pizzerias have GF pizza now.
There are GF cake mixes on the market right in the cake section like Pillsbury, so you don’t have to pay a fortune for the special GF ones. Some Walmart’s have good inexpensive GF baking supplies too.
Monosodium Glutamate is not Gluten
Just read everything, don’t assume anything ! Read , read, read it’s all you can do. So much easier now with tons of products on market and prices coming down.
